Redneck Rampage Collection Introduction:

Redneck Rampage, released in 1997, is a first-person shooter game developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay. Set in a fictional Arkansas town, the game embraces a hillbilly theme and offers players a wide array of weapons and levels to explore. It playfully parodies both the first-person shooter genre and rural American life, incorporating quirky weapons and power-ups that border on the absurd. The soundtrack features music by psychobilly and cowpunk artists like The Beat Farmers and Mojo Nixon.

Redneck Rampage has been re-released on platforms like GOG.com and Steam, with support for both Windows and macOS, thanks to source ports like BuildGDX, Rednukem, and Raze.

Gameplay:

In this first-person shooter, players can restore their character's health or hit points using unique power-ups, including moon pies, pork rinds, and alcohol. These power-ups come with their own quirks and downsides. For instance, consuming food leads to increased flatulence, making it challenging to sneak up on enemies. However, it also reduces the character's "drunk meter."

Drinking alcohol restores health and provides some resistance to enemy fire, but excessive consumption leads to decreased coordination and distorted in-game visuals. At maximum drunkenness, the character becomes incapacitated, vomiting and losing control until sobriety returns. During this period, the character is defenseless, adding another layer of challenge to gameplay. Moonshine, on the other hand, temporarily boosts speed and resets both the "drunk meter" and "gut meter" to zero.

The game's storyline revolves around two brothers, Leonard and Bubba, as they embark on a mission to rescue their prized pig, Bessie, and thwart an alien invasion in Hickston, Arkansas. Their journey takes them through various locales, including a meat packing plant and a trailer park, where they confront evil clones of their neighbors and battle male and female alien enemies. The ultimate adversaries are the Assface and the Queen Vixen, leaders of the alien invasion.

Final Words:

In 2001, a spin-off racing game titled "Off-Road Redneck Racing" was released for the PC. Unlike its predecessors, it was developed by Rage Games, although Interplay retained ownership of the IP and published it. While the game retains Leonard and Bubba on the box art and borrows voice lines from the original games, it diverges from the series by not using the Build game engine, marking a departure from the established formula."
